hiatus
so i'm taking a week-long internet sabbatical. not that i post weekly here, so most likely no one will notice the lag, but i just wanted everyone to be informed that i am not going to be spending internet time this week.
part of my artist's way thingy.
got some new work to photograph and post, but it'll have to wait!

if you promise not to look at the dirt under my nails...
i'll let you see my bruised fingers... dropped the top of a slate table on my fingers today. still throbs, but not broken!
also, i am SO close to finishing the quilt... i've pieced it together and started quilting... about 25% more and then the binding. i will post some pics probably this weekend. things are pretty hectic this week for me, so i'm planning to exhale on friday afternoon.
happy early easter all!

thistle while you work
just posted a heap of things over at my flickr page (click on the picture above to get there)... including: pictures of the pieces i did for bob in texas, a new piece i just finished today and photos of the prints now available in the shop.
i just recovered from a week-long bout of the flu and am slowly returning to the land of the living. i also went on a supply run today, so there may or may not be a new cut-out in the works.
hope everyone is well!

p.s.
on the highly diverting subject of talking in one's sleep, i apparently had a recent episode when friends were staying on the floor of our studio apartment. details are sketchy and it is possible that tiffany and i were whispering to each other in our sleep, but the only concrete information i have is this: that when russ asked what i was saying, i said,
"she wants to know what song i want to sing."
what song do you want to sing?
"rainbows. i want to sing rainbows."
new piece and musings
i finally finished a new piece yesterday evening and here it is! i had picked up a book of rilke poems about three weeks ago and immediately started tabbing pages that seemed to inspire a visual.
this one was forefront in my mind, so here's the piece. i posted the english translation from the book on flickr.
speaking of art, i am trying to start the 12-step creative recovery program called "the artist's way". i say "trying" because the course has daily writings and homework that are about an hour per day and i just haven't made space in my routine yet. (although i have started reading the actual book). it just kept coming up in conversation and i have been feeling a little restless lately, so i hoped it might help me deal with whatever stands between me and a healthy sense of creative contentment and rhythm.
lastly, as the temperatures bob up and down, the highs are getting higher and i can tell spring is trying to arrive. it's been so long since i've lived somewhere with seasons (kindergarten) and there's something so magical about watching buds appear tentatively on long, skeletal branches and seeing rain on the forecast instead of only snow.
sorry for the long break in communication. hope everyone is well!

treading water
get up
take the train
take the bus
work
take the bus
take the train
grocery store
cook dinner
clean the apartment
laundry
read some blogs
watch tv (online)
make art
pick tomorrow's outfit
get to bed on time.
no wonder i feel spent. as i was writing an email tonight, i found words: every day i feel like i'm treading water just fast enough to stay afloat. but i'm so exhausted.
i love you internet, but it might be time for another fast.

home sick today
sitting at the computer and listening to the kids on the playground of the lower school, which faces our back window.
noticing that the last time i saw them in the summer, they were all sweat and tank tops.
now they look like miniature Michelin men in all those puffy coats.
