my grandmother was raised by her step-grandmother. her mother passed away and her grandfather had re-married a woman who wasn't able to have children of her own. she must have been a pretty amazing woman, as she left quite a legacy with my grandmother and mother, who both told me plentiful stories about oma wigand when i was growing up.
so i already missed a day doing this. to make up for it, here are three pictures! the first two are my grandmother's passport from 1936 and the last is my oldest photo (i think!) and is my grandmother and her mom (ca. 1918 or 1919).
enjoy!

ever wondered what happened to her? i do.
i was amelia earhart in the wax museum in the sixth grade. (all the students selected a famous person from history and we composed a live wax museum!) my dad was a pilot and i loved flying, so being a famous female pilot was ideal.
sure wish we'd taken pictures of it. i think my memory of my costume vastly exceeds the reality of it. but we'll never know for sure.
