daily drawing, now with social commentary!

actually, i was just thinking about older people and loneliness and thinking that it was never meant to be like that. it breaks my heart to think about all the people that rush around like mad every day (me) and then think that there's this whole little undercurrent of people who are all alone. they eat alone, shop alone, watch tv alone.... everything, alone.

this is wrong. people need hugs and love and contact with each other.

so give someone a hug.

daily drawing.

we just finished watching "letters from iwo jima", which is the follow-up movie to "flags of our fathers", both by clint eastwood. the stories basically chronicle the american invasion of iwo jima from both sides. seeing these films has only further moved me to the conviction that war is wrong.

beyond all the patriotism and ideas of honor and dignity, the people fighting are sons, husbands, fathers, daughters, mothers, wives, sisters, brothers... regular people like you or me. the "enemy" is people that are just like us... sons and daughters, parts of someone's family.

"great" men from all across the ages fought for power and control and still do. but the great men rarely do the fighting themselves. and so we have someone's son shooting at someone else's son for the sake of revenge, or power or political and economic advantage.

i don't mean to demean the bravery of people that choose to go fight for their country, but i do feel that we are all somewhat deceived about what we are really fighting for.

i also know that this is a controversial topic and that many wise people fall on all sides of it. i just want to say for myself, my heart cannot support war in any way, shape or form. i believe in peace and want to be a part of bringing universal shalom and peace and flourishing to this earth, even if i can only touch the little community in which i live.

i really like these big floppy hats right now. i know i know, people keep saying that JLo wore these a lot like 5 years ago, but i wasn't paying attention back then! all i want is to wear a big, floppy, felted hat in peace. and look really cute doing it. which has yet to be determined as i have not tried any of these hats on yet. we'll see.

why am i drawing people in coats when i live in florida and it's june? no idea. if i try to delve and get all freudian... maybe i just like the safety and warmth of all that wool and down feathering... or something like that. :)

today was tiring. i'm dealing with some (probably psychological) insomnia and am feeling really worn out.

now i'm off to do some yoga and hopefully relax.

daily drawing. i have really enjoyed making a sabbath (day of rest) a part of my week. it's helped me be more positive and keep a better perspective on life.

p.s. if you're wondering why the last 4 pics are all in the same clothes... it's because i cheated and just did them all tonight. i was trying to decide whether or not to get a scanner to upload them, or to take digital images and then upload them... but in the end, i went the easiest route and used the built-in camera. from now on, i'll be doing them each day.

on 6.20.07 i started a series of drawings on 3.5" x 5" fabriano loose cards. i bought 100 and plan to continue doing a daily drawing until i finish them out. we'll see where it goes.

oh, and the only way i know i'll be regular at uploading them is to use the camera on my computer (it's so easy!)... so i know the quality isn't there, but at least they'll be posted daily. cheers!
