netflix report and the status of other affairs

netflix: so far, so good. i'd heard from a few people that they felt like it took a while between sending off and receiving the next dvd, but ours has been a 2 day exchange... we put the dvd in the mail. the next day i get an email in the morning saying they got it and another in the afternoon saying they shipped my next dvd. maybe it is our selection...we're not exactly hitting up the new releases. maybe there wasn't much demand for disc 1 of season 6 of Friends.

life: functioning in all practical respects, but have you ever been on a bike where the chain keeps getting all tangled? it's like that... solid and steady and then the next thing you know you're flying over the handle bars. we miss texas. i, in particular, miss HEB. people say sometimes you don't know you had a good thing 'til it's gone. well, i KNEW i had a good thing and i am even more upset now that it's gone. i have to go to 3 stores to get what i got at HEB, and i still haven't found a place to buy loose teas.

work: really fun. i love my job so far and have been the recipient of a great education in things in which i was hitherto unawares, such as what is good rap and how to find space for my lunch in the overcrowded mini-fridge.

i'll post some pics of my work projects soon. i'll see if i have to password protect them, as i'm not sure if i can publicly post them, so if you're interested in being on that list, let me know and i'll email everyone and let them know how it will work.

hump day is almost over! 2 days to the weekend!

for lori

i took this picture for lori, because she really wanted me to go to this special intersection... there's a show about it, modeling or something... :)

i uploaded a set of new pics of the area and of our door (since people were confused about how our situation works, since we're in a cottage behind a house).

it's almost friday and the week has gone by pretty quickly. we're getting ready for fall at work and i'm really excited about the upcoming projects. i'll send pics when it's done. (mid-july)

also, we just started a netflix account... to regulate our entertainment budget. i'll let you all know how we like it... they say we'll get our first dvd saturday. it's a pretty cool concept... you get to make a list of all the movies you want to see (plus TV dvds) and put them in an order and they use it to send you movies. like i said, full reviews by the end of the month.

cheers everyone!

p.s. i caved in and got a myspace, so if you're into that, i'm myspace.com/dwelldeep

wedelichs vs. the ocean pt. 2

if you all knew us when we got married, you may remember that i lost my glasses in the ocean on our honeymoon... my new glasses that had just been replaced because the first new pair broke the week before the wedding.

well, this saturday russ and i went to the beach to enjoy the sun and play in the water. halfway to the sandbar russ looks at me and tells me that his cell phone is in his pocket.

$75 dollars later and a new phone:
ocean: 2 wedelichs: 0

happy monday!

new space

i just posted the pics of our new place on flickr for everyone to see. it was really fun to configure all our stuff into this space.

i had the most fun with the new bookcase, taking advantage of all the nooks and cubbies. i also love the antique feel of living in a 1930's cottage. the tiles in the bathroom floor are hexagons, the wood floor is well worn and the walls are all coated in a thick plaster. it just has so much more character than our mass-produced complex in texas.

we are doing pretty well with being here. the first few days were really rough, but we're getting better every day. i made a painting about it. you can see it on flickr (just click the pic above and it will get you there).

anyhow, i hope everyone is well.
happy friday!

miami report

so far, so good!

we just got back from a cool neighborhood grocery store we found that is a lot like a central market replete with annie's mac n' cheese and competitive pricing to the big chain around here. the guy inside also told us that if we couldn't find something we wanted, just to let them know and they'd get it in for us. i loved it!

we also found a little running path in a nearby park that is adjacent to the bay. i hadn't run in a few weeks, so i ended up doing some sort of walking/running thing that i hope counted for exercise. but it will be a cute little spot for the summer until russ starts school and we get access to the campus gym facilities.

it is hot here, but not any hotter than what we're used to in texas. it's been really breezy too with lots of sunshine of course. we got to go snorkeling last weekend with russell's parents before they left and it was so beautiful. we saw all kinds of tropical fish and a coral reef.

it's been fun to wash all our dishes by hand after every meal and to not have a tv. we've played a lot of guitar, done online stuff and gone exploring in miami.

apparently the basketball team here is in the NBA finals, so the sports fans are out en masse and maybe russ and i will go watch the game at a pub or something. chances are, we won't know when it's on and we'll miss it, but i'll let you know what happens.

come visit soon!
