allergies and art

i don't know what the culprit is really, but my allergies are worse than ever. i finally caved and went to a specialist and had the 50-some-odd shots in my back to determine my specific allergies. drumroll.......... DUST. yup. i'm allergic to DUST. that grayish to blueish clumpy fluffy mysteriously clingy stuff that is practically EVERYWHERE. and i'm allergic to its mites. dust and dust mites. some mold, some weird kind of grass nobody's ever heard of, and mulberry trees.

so with the "dust" allergy, i've pretty much been miserable lately. i've had nosebleeds again, which makes me feel like i'm 8 years old. i sneeze, i wheeze and now i have this pretty little cough that makes me sound like an old man who has smoked too much. (raspy sigh).

there wasn't really a point to all that, except to vent. supposedly my shots are going to help me in 3-5 years, but for now, i get to complain to whomever has read this far along into this post.

art? yeah, i've been procrastinating again. the discipline end of this thing is pretty hard. but i've got some new sketches in the works and am going to work on some more dolls for christmas. i'll try to post as i can.

cheers all! -sam

but the ground pulls at my feet

i just finished (except for some lettering) a new painting based on the title of this entry.

ever since i heard that phrase, it's haunted me. there's something lingering and profound about that idea... that i would be in flight, in freedom, soaring... but the ground pulls at my feet.

i think we are all in the same boat... we have forgotten ourselves (as gk chesterton said so well) and are only sometimes aware of the fact that we have forgotten. for my part, i say that this is precisely the role of great art, great music, great films... to jar our memory and prick our souls so that we can FEEL again. anyhow, that's probably enough sermonizing for you. :)

i'll post a pic of the painting when it's finished. (if you're lucky, that will be monday, if you're not lucky... it could be a while)

happy friday all!

happy tuesday!

well, i figured i should write something in here, as i haven't written in a bit and people tend to get a little bored with you if you don't write enough in these things, so i'll try to keep the three people that check my site all happy and satisfied.

i got a sewing machine finally, which is great, but i think it needs a new part or something... lots of loopy things on the backside of my fabric. eeeep. i'm hoping to make more dolls with it, as they will come out faster that way. i'll post some new dollies when i get them made.

i got to teach a knitting class last weekend, which was fabulous! i loved the ladies that were there and it was so fun to see so many women get excited about knitting. woohoo! hopefully, i can teach more craft classes as it was superb fun.

all in all it's been a hectic whirlwind of a two weeks and frankly, i am looking forward to the rest of this week and the chance to get a good bit of rest and art done.

cheers all and happy tuesday!
