but the ground pulls at my feet
i just finished (except for some lettering) a new painting based on the title of this entry.
ever since i heard that phrase, it's haunted me. there's something lingering and profound about that idea... that i would be in flight, in freedom, soaring... but the ground pulls at my feet.
i think we are all in the same boat... we have forgotten ourselves (as gk chesterton said so well) and are only sometimes aware of the fact that we have forgotten. for my part, i say that this is precisely the role of great art, great music, great films... to jar our memory and prick our souls so that we can FEEL again. anyhow, that's probably enough sermonizing for you. :)
i'll post a pic of the painting when it's finished. (if you're lucky, that will be monday, if you're not lucky... it could be a while)
happy friday all!

i read this verse this morning, and thought of your blog entry...
"we are brought down to the dust; our bodies cling to the ground. rise up and help us; redeem us because of your unfailing love (hesed)." (ps 44:25-26)
that makes me think of the john mayer trio song "gravity"....
"gravity.... stay the hell away from me" (that part makes me feel special)
